Background and Experience
I focus my practice on complex intellectual property matters and advise clients on IP portfolio management, litigation, enforcement and dispute counseling, and audits and due diligence. My experience includes trade secret protection and management, standards counseling, open source matters, international rights management and identification and acquisition of intellectual property of third parties.
I have advised clients at various stages of development in a wide range of technologies, including computer architecture and system design, software, semiconductor design and fabrication, optics, networking and telecommunications, biotechnology and medical devices. Over my career, I have represented many of the most well-known technology companies in the world, including Cisco, Apple, Intel, Oracle, Samsung, Broadcom, Marvell Semiconductor, Analog Devices, Matsushita, TSMC, Medtronic, Applied Materials, NetApp, VMware, Comcast, Nuance, and Yahoo!.
Prior to earning my JD at Stanford Law School, I earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and worked as a consultant for Oracle Corporation, where I designed and implemented database applications.
Professional Activities
I am admitted to practice in California and Oregon. I am also admitted to practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the US District Courts for the Northern District of California and the Eastern District of Texas, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
I speak frequently on intellectual property matters at professional and academic and was previously an adjunct lecturer at Stanford Law School, where I taught IP Strategy for High Technology Companies.
I have also served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Video Coalition and as the Treasurer of the Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory.
